Disabilities / Dementia for Officers
When someone with dementia or someone with autism gets lost, it's not your typical missing persons case. Their conditions cause them to elope in predictable ways and this course will give you insights to recover them quicker, safer, and with fewer police resources.
This course will prepare you to understand what elopement is, assist during interactions with missing persons with disabilities and dementia, give you practical techniques to keep both the eloper and yourselves safe, and provide resources to help persons and caregivers. You will learn how to communicate with caregivers and what information is needed, how to create a plan for when you get the call, and what resources to look for and give.
This course is currently available and free to any officer or department within California. Due to grant terms, we may not permit people who are not affiliated with a law enforcement agency in California.
